Welcome back to Casually Baked! In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dave Thompson, a US veteran and the founder of Mindful Warriors. Dave has a background in healthcare and is passionate about alternative medicines, nutrition, movement, and growth mindset. He shares his personal journey of overcoming pain and depression through changes in his diet, movement, and the use of plant medicine.

Dave's story begins in 2011 when he woke up feeling miserable and like a 65-year-old arthritic man, despite being in the prime of his life. He decided to make a change and threw out all the junk food, alcohol, and medications he was taking. He adopted a paleo-based diet and eventually transitioned to an animal-based diet, which greatly improved his overall health and well-being.

One of the key components of Dave's wellness routine is fasting. He recommends starting with a 12-hour fasting window and gradually increasing it to 16 hours or more. He fasts regularly - ranging from 24 to 72 hours and has experienced numerous benefits, including pain relief, improved cognitive function, and better overall health.

Dave also emphasizes the importance of finding a naturopathic doctor who takes a holistic approach to healthcare. These doctors focus on addressing the root cause of health issues rather than simply prescribing medication. They consider factors such as nutrition, lifestyle, and genetics to create personalized treatment plans.

In his new endeavor, Mindful Warriors, Dave aims to educate and empower individuals in their health and wellness journey. He encourages people to make conscious choices about their food, seek out local farmers, and prioritize their future selves. By adopting simple habits like fasting, walking, and making mindful food choices, individuals can take control of their health and well-being.
